Cynthia Douglas, soprano, returned this summer for her
fourth season as the principal soprano with the OCMM singing in Telephone,
Pizza, Sondheim, and Faust. In years past she has been featured as Despina
in Cosi Fan Tutte, Marie in Smetana's The Bartered Bride, Mimi in La Boheme,
Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, and numerous comcerts. For the past three years
she was also the principal soprano with Opera Maine appearing in the title
role of Donizetti’s Rita, Goldentrill in Impressario, Lucia in Rape of
Lucretia, Monica in The Medium, Voluptua in Mushroom Pizza, Lucy in The
Telephone, and Dorine in Tartuffe. Originally from East Texas, where she
earned a master's degree at Stephen F. Austin State University, Ms. Douglas
was the winner of the Young Artist Competition in Conroe, TX, and the Texoma
Region NATS Competition, Graduate Women division. While attending Stephen
F. Austin, Ms. Douglas performed many leading operatic roles, including
Miss Wordsworth in Albert Herring, Celie in Signor Deluso, Alice in Falstaff,
Suor Angefica, Susannah, Pamina and Papagena in The Magic Flute, and Fiordiligi
in Cosi fan Tutte. Since moving to Michigan she has been a soloist for
Bach's B Minor Mass and Poulenc's Gloria with the Michigan State University
Symphoniy Orchestra. Recent competition wins have included the Lansing
Matinee Musicale Recital Competition, the Friedrich Schorr International
Memorial Prize, and the District Metropolitan Opera Competition in Toronto.
Ms. Douglas recently premiered the role of Constance in the Lost Dauphin,
which was broadcast on Wisconsin Public Television. In the past year she
also made her debut with the Waupaca Orchestra, and was broadcast live
on Wisconsin Public Radio in a joint recital with her husband, Terry Morris.
Cynthia recently received an appointment as adjunct professor of voice
at Millikin University.
